Is Air Conditioning Units Maintenance Important?

If they are properly maintained, air conditioning units can be a great investment. No matter how pricey and cutting-edge the device you purchase is, if you don’t maintain it properly, it won’t last as long as you’d hoped. Maintaining air conditioners regularly will ensure that they continue to function properly throughout their lifespan and adhere to health and safety regulations.

Regular air conditioning units maintenance saves money

Regular maintenance will not only guarantee that your air conditioning machine lasts the course, but it will also save you money on energy expenditures. Poorly maintained air conditioning machines consume significantly more energy and require more frequent repairs, adding to the cost. If you want to keep costs down with regular maintenance, make sure you cover the following:

  • Air conditioning filters – Filters are critical to the operation of air conditioning equipment. As these become blocked or unclean, they limit airflow and can influence efficiency. This means that air conditioning filters must be cleaned and replaced regularly. Doing so regularly will continuously reduce energy consumption – replacing a clogged filter with a new one can cut energy consumption by up to 15%. The location of the filter will be determined by your air conditioning unit. Another factor to consider is if your filters are reusable or need to be replaced. If the air conditioner is used frequently, clean or replace the filters every couple of months.
  • Air conditioner coils – Your air conditioner’s evaporator and condenser coils are filth catchers. Keeping the filters in the air conditioning unit can reduce the amount of dirt on the coils, but they will still require maintenance. Otherwise, airflow may be limited, and dirt may act as an insulator to the coil, reducing its ability to absorb heat. Coils should be inspected and cleaned at least once a year.
  • Coil fins – It’s fairly uncommon for the fins on the evaporator and condenser coils to become twisted out of shape, causing airflow from the air conditioning unit to become blocked. As a result, these must be checked regularly, and a ‘fin comb’ may be required to get them back into shape.
  • Condensate drains – Dirt and debris can readily clog the drain channels on an air conditioning machine. If this happens to your air conditioner, it will no longer absorb humidity, making rooms feel moist. To keep it that way, simply clean the condensate drain with a stiff wire.
  • Winter preparation – While few of us require air conditioning systems during the winter, they must still be maintained for the summer. It’s preferable to cover the unit in the winter to keep it warm and to keep debris and grime off of it if it’s left outside.

Air conditioning devices require routine maintenance, which is best accomplished by hiring professionals. A technician will inspect your unit to ensure it is operating properly and will look for any flaws that may create difficulties in the future.
